Day 3

The most radical change world wide since the 1970's has been the exponential increase in electronic and digital technology, the development of the Internet, and the global increase in Mobil communication. This has changed the way in which we think about ourselves as human beings, and about the concepts of space and place, factors crucial to the production of sculpture. There is a new sense of geography, which is more political and economic than physical, and less bound to maps, territories and boundaries. Additionally, the way in which we access knowledge has changed, and, for example, the history of international art is now instantly accessible to a worldwide audience. There is more source material and imagery than ever before, and this bewildering, unedited mass seeps into the unconsciousness and affects it. Artists are possibly more aware of this than the rest of us, and the sculptures they are making today reflects this.
